Chloe's Chemoo Cows was set up in September 2011 in memory of Chloe Alexandra McNeil. At 11 years of age she lost her fight with an inoperable and incurable brain tumour just 9 months after her initial diagnosis.
We hadn't started out to set up a charity, like all good things it evolved naturally and really is a reflection of Chloe.
The inspiration behind Chloe's Chemoo Cows was Chloe's love of art, her teddy 'Chewits', who was never far from her side in hospital, and her love of all things cow related! A strange obsession, but one she relished, from bookmarks to socks and from toys to jewellery...if it had a cow theme she loved it!
Our mission is to raise awareness and much needed funds to brighten the lives of children with cancer, to do this we work alongside Clic Sargent, the Macmillan outreach nurses and the play therapists at the Schiehallion Ward, Yorkhill Children's Hospital.
One of the first things Chloe's Chemoo Cows does is provide all children receiving chemotherapy with their own Chemoo Cow gift box containing a soft toy cow, bookmark, sticker and certificate.
We then liaise with the staff to buy much needed activities, crafts, toys, DVDs and other items for the children or the ward. We deliver these huge parcels of crafts & activities (weighing 20-25kg) to the ward 3 times a year as well as making additional deliveries with other gifts at special points in the year including Christmas and Easter.
The charity is going from strength to strength and to date we've raised over £100,000 but we couldn't do this without your continued support and fundraising!
Chemoo-therapy is udderly serious but Chloe would always try to find the Cow-mical side of things!!!
Her positive attitude has inspired us to create something we know she would be proud of.
Chloe's Chemoo Cows is a registered charity, founded by Chloe's parents, and is fully committed and focused on our aim to brighten the lives of children and young people living with cancer.
Charity registration number SC042649.
